Arthur Fits-Higham had not always been a man of property; his early life had in fact been one of a wanderer over seas. His birth had come about because of a dalliance between Sir Edward Higham and a kitchen maid. The elder sons of Sir Edward had been good strong stout lads who had gone to serve under the Duke of Palermo against the rebels of the Dutch Netherlands and had the unfortunate luck to have been blown to pieces by a piece of bad artillery which had literally blown up in there face.

On the age of Sail
@ 30. Mar 2007 – 21:58:26
There is nothing which excites the hearts and imagination of men then the sight of an old sailing vessel in its full glory with sails unfurled and fully extended to catch the wind there great wooden foreparts breaking the waves as they race across the oceans in there splendor. In there time the ocean going vessels of the past depleted vast tracts of land in Europe and Asia of all trees. One might consider the age of sail to be a thing of the past however.
The age of the sailing ship might yet make a come back with the ever increasing demands for oil and coal raising it is quite possible that in the foreseeable future the oceans of the world might once more see the return of sailing ships.
The real question is what these vessels will look like as we have made so many improvements and advances in comfort to ocean going vessels the possibility that the sailing ships of the future might be very different in design and looks from the sailing ships of the past.
It is possible that the hulls of these vessels will be made of fiberglass or even steel which in itself will change the look and design of the vessel considerably the old sailing ships had fat bellies in which they carried cargo the look of the new age of sailing might be a lot sleeker and remind on of the great ships if the second half of the 19th century like the Cutty Sark
These vessels might also have a certain amount of nuclear power, the masts might be made not of wood but high masts of light weight steel which will carry the great sails made of synthetics
I lift my glass to the new age of sail

Freedom a bikers story
@ 18. Nov 2006 – 00:57:12
He squeezed the handle a little harder it was difficult holding on the speed that the wind was rushing through his hair gave him a sense of freedom that he had seldom had before of course he had ridden big bikes before but this was different he listened to the motor the steady beat of the engine as it pulsated and sent a rhythmic vibration through his body existed him. How he wondered had he ever managed to live with out this type of excitement was beyond belief it was like a breath of fresh air the feeling of freedom enveloped him for the first time in his life he felt as if he was really alive. Why he wondered had they not told him before that it would be like this he was dressed in his biking suite the thick leather pants and jacket to protect him from any accident. One had to take precautions in case of an accident but he was a good driver. He increased the pressure on the handle and sat back enjoying the wind blowing through his hair it gave him a feeling of been the master of his own destiny few people he knew ever achieved this sense of freedom. It was good to be alive and he planed to enjoy every moment of his life. For a moment he considered switching off the engine and listening to the sounds of the night he loved the night there was so much to hear the sounds of the night birds and the insects on an open road were beautiful beyond comparison he could not find words to describe them he spent most nights laying on the grass looking up at the stars listing to the crickets and the frogs as they made there mating calls. But tonight he decided not too. Tonight he was enjoying himself to much the engines steady roar gave him a feeling of comfort he looked in the mirror he was satisfied with the way he looked the wind decreased as he threw a switch and the big machine slowed to a slow rhythmic chant. He gazed once more in the mirror the wind was still blowing through his hair but not to the same existent as formally ah well not much he could do about that it had been fun but now he really had to switch of the Hair dryer otherwise he would be late for his date.

2001 AD New York A bad day
@ 09. Sep 2006 – 23:48:30
Samuel had jetted in from London the previous afternoon booked into the Millennium arms hotel taken a quick shower and had gone to sleep. He was feeling a bit jet lagged and as a result he did not sleep well he woke at three in the morning and ordered up some sandwiches and coffee from the kitchen. While he waited he took another shower and dressed at 4AM he walked down stairs and bought a copy of the New York times
nothing much happening in the stock market. At five thirty AM he tossed aside the paper and left the hotel and walked across the street to the World trade center.
